3 Time Grammy Award Winning Saxophonist Tom Scott leads his talented quintet with Aaron Janik on Trumpet, Mitchell Forman on Piano, Chris Colangelo on Bass, and Louie Palmer on Drums. Tom Scott is an accomplished composer, arranger, producer, musical director, educator, bandleader, guest soloist, and founding member of The Blues Brothers Band, and the L.A. Express. Tom is the son of Film and T.V. composer, Nathan Scott, who amassed 850 T.V. credits, !00 Film credits, who was also an orchestrator and conductor who wrote the theme songs for the T.V. shows, Dragnet and Lassie. Tom formed his first Jazz ensemble as a teenager called The Neoteric Trio.
Tom soon began writing theme songs for T.V. shows Starsky and Hutch, Streets of San Francisco, Square Pegs, Baretta, Cannon, Barnaby Jones, National Geographic Explorer, and for T.V. specials and network movies. Tom played the soprano sax on the number one hit “Listen To What The Man Said” by Paul McCartney and Wings, on the song “I Still Can’t Sleep” for the movie Taxi Driver, and with Johnny Mathis on “Without Us”, the theme song for the 1980’s sitcom Family Ties. Tom led the house bands of Pat Sajak’s and Chevy Chase’s late night talk shows, and has been the music director for The Academy Awards, Several Emmy Award Shows, Ebony’s 50th Celebration, The People’s Choice Awards, Comic Relief, and The Carol Burnett Show. Tom has recorded dozens of solo albums, has been nominated for 13 Grammys and won 3 Grammys, and has numerous Film and T.V. scoring credits, which include for the films, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Uptown Saturday Night, Stir Crazy, Hanky Panky, The Sure Thing, Just One of the Guys, Soulman, and Shakes the Clown. Tom has recorded with The Beach Boys, Blondie, The Grateful Dead, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, Carole King, Richard Marx, Paul McCartney, Eddie Money, Helen Reddy, Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Steppenwolf, Rod Stewart, Don Ellis, Oliver Nelson, Roger Kellaway, Victor Feldman, Patrick Williams, and was the music director for George Harrison, Joni Mitchell, Olivia Newton-John, and The Grp All-Star Band. Tom’s music has been played by 2 Pac, Madonna, Bruno Mars, Snoop Dog, Massive Attack, Wu-Tang Clan, N.W.A.,and The Chemical Brothers. Tom has produced for Tenor Vocalist Daniel Rodriguez, who’s recording “The Spirit of America” has sold over 400,000 copies. Tom is a member of The Les Deux Love Orchestra, and has conducted over 30 Symphony Orchestra performances as music director for Daniel Rodriguez. Tom has recorded 35 solo albums as a leader, 25 other albums as a sideman, and with The L.A. Express and The Blues Brothers Band. Tom has appeared on over 500 recordings, and has over 2300 credits. Tom has toured 5 major continents with his own band, and his diversity is unmatched, playing with artists from Barbra Streisand, Thelonious Monk, Aretha Franklin to Aerosmith. Tom is an active clinician in the U.S. and Canada, and performs and teaches master classes in woodwinds, arranging and film composing.
Trumpeter Aaron Janik started playing at the age of 10, studying with Jack Martin, and at Oberlin College of Arts and Science, and The Conservatory of Music with Wendell Logan, earning degrees in Jazz Trumpet Performance, and Biology(Pre-Medical). Aaron has studied with trumpeters Marcus Belgrave and Sean Jones, and musicians Gary Bartz, Robin Eubanks, and Billy Hart. Aaron has played with Faith Evans, Dwele, Kierra, Sheard, Micki Miller, Charlie Wilson, Lil Kim, IIL, Total, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Les Nubians, Clark Sisters, Gino Vanelli, Carl Thomas, Lisa- Page Brooks, Eric Roberson, J Drew Sheard, and is the co-founder of Horn FX-Online, a community for woodwind instrumentalists. Aaron has appeared on 19 recordings. Jazz and Fusion Keyboardist Mitchell Forman started on Classical Piano at the age of 7. At the age of 17, Mitchell began his studies at The Manhattan School of Music. Mitchell has played with Gerry Mulligan, Stan Getz, Phil Woods, Carla Bley, Mel Torme, Astrud Gilberto, John McLaughlin, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Janis Siegel, Dave Samuels, Dianne Schuur, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, Simon Phillips, Jimmy Earl, Freddie Hubbard, Saxophonist Bill Evans, Ricky Lee Jones, and Richard Elliot. Mitchell recorded a tribute album dedicated to pianist Bill Evans, and has made both fusion and solo recordings. Mitchell started his own record label, and co-leads the band Metro with Chuck Loeb, which has made 5 recordings. Mitchell has played with Rick Braun, The BWB Band, Jeff Golub, and Virgil Donato. Mitchell has recorded 14 albums as a leader, 7 albums as a co-leader, and over 60 as a sideman. Mitchell has over 450 recording credits.
Bassist Chis Colangelo is a composer and teacher who plays with a deep masterful, resonating tone, that is full, fat, and understated. Chris plays with astonishing articulation, and serious chops that employs a seductive narrative power. Chris attended Rowan University, first playing in the Philadelphia area, and for the last 30 years, has played in the L.A. area. Chris has worked with The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Big Band, The Count Basie Band, The Tonight Show Band, Yusef Lateef, Bob Brookmeyer, Jimmy Cleveland, Alex Acuna, Roy McCurdy, Doc Severinsen, Ernie Watts, Kei Akagi, Les McCann, Richie Cole, Sal Marquez, Joe LaBarbera, Bob Mintzer, Arturo Sandoval, and Peter Erskine. Chris has toured with vocalists Jack Jones and Mary Wilson, and made 5 recordings as a leader/co-leader.
Drummer Louie Palmer began the drums at the age of 5. Louie received a scholarship to and graduated from Berklee School College of Music. Louie has played with some of the world’s best musicians, including Mike Stern, Tim Lefebvre, Mitchell Forman, Gary Husband, Janek Gwizdma, Bob Franceschini, Jason Rebello, Ruslan Sirota, Nelson Rangell, Bob Reynolds, Randy Brecker, Bob James, Luis Conte, and Brandon Fields. Mitchell has studied with Thomas Lang, Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine, and Virgil Donato. Louie has appeared on 8 recordings.
